Arnold Walter Kehrli, age 99, of New Glarus passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. Arnold was born on January 30, 1917 in New Glarus to his parents Arnold Sr. and Louise (Kneubuehl) Kehrli. He graduated from New Glarus High School in 1935 and attended Ripon College and Madison Business College. Arnold entered into the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in August of 1942 and served until 1945 in the South Pacific on the Islands of Guadalcanal, Moratai, and Leyte. On December 29, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Stuckey in New Glarus. Arnold owned and operated a cheese store and tavern in New Glarus and then later worked and as a production supervisor at Swiss Colony in Monroe and then as a maintenance engineer at UW Hospital in Madison He was a member of the VFW Post #10549 and Stuessy-Kuenzi American Legion Post #141 in New Glarus and the New Glarus Fire Department. Arnold was also a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
Arnold is survived by his children JoAnn (Richard Merlau) Kehrli-Merlau, Arnold P. (Nancy) Kehrli, Kathryn Kehrli, and David (Mary) Kehrli, grandchildren Bethany (Andrew) Suppo, Ryan (Bethann Hale) Esch, Meggan (Joseph Brucker) Kehrli, Brian (Sara) Kehrli, Paul (Megan) Kehrli, James (Silvy) Kehrli, Jennifer (Brad) Mayer, Todd Zentner, Amy Morrison, Ann Dieckman, and Mark Dieckman, fourteen great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy and a sister Anna Matzinger.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Swiss Church Cemetery in New Glarus with military honors.
