Alan R. Freitag, age 85, of Verona passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home. He was born on August 10, 1932 at home in New Glarus the son of Terrence and Frieda (Luchsinger) Freitag. Al graduated from Monticello High School in 1950. Following high school he entered into the United States Navy and served for three years. On April 10, 1954 he was united in marriage to Jean Schuett at the E & R Church in New Glarus. After his military service Al worked at Badger Ordnance, then Borden Dairy, and selling insurance. In the 1960's he purchased Creative Woodcrafts which he operated for over 35 years. Al was a past president of the Wisconsin Builder's Association and was a member of the Madison Area Builder's Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing at his lake home "Tall Oaks" on Long Lake, making wine, Texas sized Manhattans, poker, golf, gardening, and snowmobiling. Al also was a Badger and Packer fan and raised St. Bernard's with his wife Jean.

Al is survived by his sister Carolyne McNary, nephews Steve McNary; Scott McNary; Dan (Linda) Freitag and their children Michael, Robbie, Katie; Hal (Shelly) Freitag and their daughter Abby; DJ (Kate) Schuett and sons Darris, Drew, and Declan; nieces Stacey McNary; Kelly Iverson; Terri (Mike) Gill and her daughter Carrie (Pat) Mess and grandson Silas; Madelyn Martinez and her sons John and Michael; grandnieces Molly and Laura Beecher. He is further survived by a sister-in-law Molly Freitag and special companion Virginia Urness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean; brother Harold Freitag; sister Marty Quest; nephew AJ Schuett; and a niece Susan Beecher.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI with a Celebration of Life to follow.
